18/52 :: Desert Theater

Last Friday I visited the Desert Theater Nursery with some clients for my landscape design studio. There are more photos from the visit over at Aeonium Design Studio's blog, but here is my photo from last week:

Disneyland Weekend

Just got back from a wonderful bachelorette weekend to celebrate K's upcoming nuptials. We stayed at the Disneyland Hotel, hung out at the pool, went on oodles of rides, ate amazing food, watched some World of Color, and had a great time with each other. Here are a couple of photos (for my favorite one of the weekend check out my 17/52 Photo Post):

I highly recommend the Bride Mickey ears - I think they got us a lot of things - like riding in the tail cone of the monorail (a first for all of us)! Anyway - a great time, and a great group of girls - can't wait until the wedding!

17/52: Bride to Be

This past weekend was K's bachelorette party at Disneyland. More photos to follow, but here is this past week's photo for my 52 Week Photo Project:

New Etsy Business Cards!

On Friday I received 2 sets of business cards from Moo.com. One for Aeonium Design Studio, and the other for my Rabbitwerks Etsy Shop. I am really excited for my new cards - I have photos on the front that reflect better my current trend in jewelry making (I'm kind of into the whole boho thing now a days) AND they reflect my new shop look/banner. They also include a repeat customer coupon code!

You may notice a QR Code on the bottom right of the card. I did these a few months ago, and they've been a big hit with everything from my design studio to my personal portfolio.

Its a pretty fantastic little piece of technology. Grab the nearest smart phone, complete with scanning app (I use the Optiscan app for the iPhone), click, and surf the linked website. So now you can access my Etsy shop on your phone, via my business card ;) Seriously sweet. Go ahead, try it. You know you want to ...

13/52: HD Kids Clinic

Part of my new part time job (hey, I got a part time job - at the place where we wear orange aprons!) is to help run THD Kids Clinic. Its the first Saturday of every month and oodles of little kids, in their very own orange aprons, come to the store and build do-it-yourself craft projects. Its a total blast, and this week's photo op:

12/52: Toys for Critters

Earlier this week I headed down to the Tijuana Zoo with three of my fellow Shape of Enrichment volunteers to deliver some Boomerballs, garage door springs, burlap, bobbins, and faux logs. The animal toys were part of the Toys for Critters initiative that I'm starting up at The Shape of Enrichment, Inc. I'll write up a post soon about the day (as it was fantastic!), but in the mean time, here is my photo of the week:

11/52: Spring Time in the Kitchen

Tulips are one of my all time favorite cut flowers. Needless to say, when I see them in the store for the first time each Spring, I have a hard time not getting a bunch:

10/52: Morning Coffee

I started a Garden Shop on Etsy this week. I've only got 2 plant listings up right now, but that will change soon. Here is a look at my first posted item:

GOOD goes Tectonic

As you may recall, I have a thing for GOOD.is infographics. Talk about an awesome way to graphically present a whole ton o' data in a clean and understandable way. Here is my latest favorite, "When Plates Collide", regarding earthquakes/plate tectonics:

Aren't infographics just the niftiest? Check out more, including the "United States of Unhappy Campers" and "The Future of NASA" at www.good.is/infographics.

9/52: Chocolate and Vino

This week's photo comes from our weekly Ladies' Night outing. We went out for a slice of pizza and then next door for chocolate and wine. I LOVE drinking chocolate, so I wound up with the rosemary mint drinking chocolate with home made marshmallows:

Disney Dream Portraits - New Set!

I dig Disney, I dig photography, I dig photoshop, and I dig these things all rolled into one.

So whenever a new set of Disney Dream Portraits comes out I get super excited! And today, was one of those days - with WDW announcing 3 new portraits - here are 2 of them:

From Snow White & the 7 Dwarfs: Olivia Wilde as the
Queen & Alec Baldwin as the Mirror on the Wall

From The Little Mermaid: Queen Latifah as Ursula
My absolute favorite of the entire series is still Rachel Weisz as Snow White (below). This has been the background on my desktop for the better part of 2 years, and I don't really see that changing any time soon...

I do think its unfortunate that Disney doesn't have a page all about these portraits, but this link (also seen above) will give you a list of each portrait (prior to today's release), the actor(s) in each, and a link to a high res image file for each portrait. Enjoy!

Oscar Party!

Last night, like many others, the Mohawk House hosted our very own Oscar party.

Aside from good friends, and some seriously excellent food courtesy of my roommate Co, we've found the key to a good Oscar party is ... drum roll ... Oscar Bingo!

Instead of ballots, we did bingo. The bingo cards were from Jessica at How About Orange and they made the show a lot more entertaining. We wound up listening to all of the speeches and paying attention to EVERY little detail in order to mark boxes off on the bingo cards.

Prizes went to the first, second, and third people to fill up 2 sets of rows or columns. It actually took about an hour and a half for us to get our first winner, and another 30 minutes for our second place winner to be called.

All in all a great night, and an entertaining party!

Gardening Itch

I've been getting the itch to start our garden up again for Spring. We have one "Winter" garden going right now, but I just found these photos from our garden last Spring (links here and here) and I suddenly can't wait to plant tomatoes and herbs again!

While we have a couple of weekends yet until we ramp up the garden, I'm still getting excited...

8/52: Meditation on the Racetrack

Last weekend I took 8 of my closest friends out to my happy place: Death Valley National Park. We had an amazing three days of adventuring and many awesome photos were taken, but this one, from the Racetrack, is one of my favorites:

Wacky Wednesday: Wacky Kitty

Some of you know my cat Bycx - she used to belong to some friends in SLO and she has since moved into my parents' house. They've sort of adopted her, and she rules the roost - so I've never had the heart to move her out of there and around San Diego with me. So while she's "technically" my cat, she's really just one of the family.

At any rate. She's crazy. I don't know why, but she has developed some interesting quirks. She thinks she's a puppy, she can do higher level calculator math, she regularly changes the screen display parameters on various computers (Mac or PC, doesn't seem to matter), and instead of killing the gophers or mice in the area around the house - she befriends them.

Gotta love her. This past week I snapped two pictures of her/ her "talents":

Her higher level math/calculator skills

Waiting for her gopher friend to pop up.
She used to play whack-a-mole with the gophers in the yard, now they touch noses and sniff each other... Like I said, she's quirky.

7/52: Heavenly Work

I really do love my "job". Having my own landscape design studio means I get to run my own schedule. When I get tired of looking at plants on the computer or in stacks of books and print outs I head out to one of the nurseries that I specify from. And this is how I spent Wednesday afternoon - in my own version of heaven:

Etsy Rocks my World - iPhone Style

As any follower of my blog can tell you, I'm a huge Etsy fan/addict. Its a very supportive community for crafters, artists, and the like that I am proud to be a small part of. I not only sell jewelry there, but I buy supplies for my jewelry and I do a great deal of my shopping there. I buy purses, gifts for friends, buttons, laundry sachets and felted dryer balls, reusable sandwich bags, beanies, and all of my makeup off Etsy.

So in November when I upgraded to my iPhone 4 and I had to say good bye to my amazing Threadless case, my friend KS (also a huge Etsy addict) suggested I check out her latest purchase from downstairsDesigns.

Source: downstairsDesigns
I've been using it for a couple of months now and absolutely love it! My little phone wallet is perfect for sticking in my back pocket and taking off for the day or even the night - my i.d., credit card, and a couple of bills fit securely and perfectly in either the front or back pocket, and my phone slides right in - even with its case on.

Speaking of cases. I'm the biggest klutz in the world, and I drop things, including my expensive iPhone, ALL  the time. In addition to the phone wallet I also went in search of an iPhone 4 case on Etsy. As per usual, Etsians did not disappoint.

Source: Record Wallets

I've been using this adorable Where the Wild Things Are case from Record Wallets for a couple of months now too. It is not only great for comments, but awesome for saving my iPhone when I drop it. I drop my phone about once a week, and not only has my phone survived, but the case doesn't even have a crack. Well done! Two more happy Etsy shopping experiences in the bag!

6/52: Lawn Games and Building Blocks

I know I'm a little late on last week's photo - so here is a belated Photo Friday post, lets call it Photo Wednesday:

This is the second weekend this year where we have been lucky enough to spend an afternoon in Balboa Park playing lawn games and getting sun. I must admit, living in Southern California sure has its perks. Anyway, after a very intense (and a whole lot of smack talking) match C, K, and I got whipped in a best of 3 match of Kubb by GB, J, and Ky. It was a great afternoon, and one we hope to repeat again soon.

After our match K and my sister started stacking the Kubb pieces and this was the most impressive of structures either of them completed.

Kubb? I hear you say! Its a Viking lawn game, involving a bunch of wooden pieces. Check it out here.

5/52: Friday night at the Local Bar

Our local bar, really an Italian restaurant with a varied and fantastic beer selection, is a favorite stop for my roommates and I. Its less than a block away from our house (6 houses over and half a block South). On roommate nights we find ourselves walking over there, order scrumptious take away food and enjoying a beer while we wait for our food. This was Friday night's beer selection:

Etsy Treasury! Put a Bird On It San Diego...

... I'm having way too much fun putting together treasurys on Etsy. After watching Portlandia last night I really felt the need to do a "Put a bird on it" themed treasury.

To make it a bit more challenging on myself I decided to feature items only if they had birds or feathers AND if the artists/crafters were part of the Etsy Artisans of San Diego County Team (@EASDCTeam) of San Diego Etsians. It was really fun as I wound up going through most of the shops in our team and poking around.

Want to scoot around the treasury? Check it out here: In San Diego, We Put Birds on Things.

Noogler!

So the stars have aligned and my dad's company, eBook Technologies, was recently acquired by none other than Google!!! You may or may not know that I have a huge crush on Google - its kind of ridiculous really. From their awesome search engine, to Gmail / Gchat / Google Docs / blogger / Sketch Up, to their Google Doodles, to the Googleplex - its kind of ridiculous how much I dig this company and their corporate culture and humor.

The fact that my dad now has an @google.com email address is pretty much the awesomest of sauce. The fact that they have a hazing ritual of sorts at Google Corporate, and that my dad (and the rest of the eBook crew) had to stand up during the weekly Q & A session with their Noogler hats and their n00b shirts = pretty much fantastic-ness.

The only downside to this is that my dad will be working in Irvine. On the plus side, my parents are getting an apartment in Irvine, so I'll have a place to stay right down the street from Disneyland & the Verizon Amphitheater...

4/52 : Saturday in the Park

We spent part of last Saturday enjoying the 70° weather, in a lovely San Diego January. I took a lot of film shots of the group playing Kubb and Bocce, so we'll see how those turn out. But this is my shot of the week:

Etsy Treasury! Blind Lady Cycling

So I'm racking my brain for a fun Etsy Treasury Challenge, when I check my twitter feed and see some posts from Blind Lady's 2nd anniversary celebration shenanigans... so here's an attempt to combine craft beer (Blind Lady style) with Etsy :

I think it turned out pretty well. Its certainly pretty to look at!

And then there were four ...

... on Sunday morning my sister's and my cockatiel Frosty didn't wake up.

Its been a long road with this little guy (we've had him for 20 years - he was 23 years old), and the last couple of years have been pretty hard on him. I'll miss him dearly, but its probably for the best.

Frosty the Snowbird

Rest in piece little fella. I'll always remember you walking on the table and through our cereal bowls in the morning before school, hanging out on my shoulder, whistling the Andy of Mayberry Song, and asking us to "Let Me Out!" 30 seconds before a major earthquake would hit.

He's survived by the rest of the menagerie - one noisy-ass - but loving - Moluccan cockatoo, and three very friendly - and fairly wily - cats.

3/52 : Light it up

So this week I actually took a couple of decent photos on my iPhone. It was a hard choice, but I think 3/52 is this one, that I took at Downtown Disney the other night:

Mad Tea Party - My First Etsy Treasury

I've been wanting to do this for a while - but I finally put together my first Treasury List on Etsy. I'm excited to do more of them, as its really just an excuse to scoot around Etsy and look at a lot of really crafty and talented folks' stuff.

Want to browse these talented Etsians' shops? Go to the Treasury.

1/52 - Taking the California out of California Adventure

Last year I really wanted to do a 365 project, but I'm not very good at stopping to take the time to do a worthy photo for a 365 project each day. This year I've decided to do a 52 week project - one photo per week. I'm not aiming to have an amazing photograph each week, and lets be honest, most of them will be from the iPhone (which, as I've said before takes pretty decent photos). To help keep me honest and fulfill one of my latest goals (being more active in the online communities I take part in) I've joined The 52 Weeks Project on Flickr!

Without further adieu - here's week 1/52:
